FORTH/ICE-HT was founded in 1984 and operates in Patras, Greece. It is one of the ten (10) Institutes of the Foundation for Research and Technology, Hellas (FORTH) that reports to the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI).
FORTH has been recognized repeatedly as a top-level research center not only in the country but also in Europe, following several evaluation and ranking studies. The mission of the Institute is to conduct forefront scientific research, contribute to technological innovation, provide training and advanced education to new researchers, and contribute to the development of the Region of Western Greece, in particular, and the country as a whole.
The Institute covers a broad range of disciplines within chemical engineering sciences: (i) nanotechnology & advanced materials, (ii) energy & environment, (iii) biosciences & biotechnology. In addition to the mainstream activities in these sectors, several major activities are promoted at the interfaces of these areas, creating a truly multidisciplinary work environment. The research results respond to modern societal challenges, like green energy, environment, and quality of life. The Institute also encourages strongly the exploitation of research results in the form of patents, licensing, and spin-off companies.
The main assets of the Institute are the high quality of research personnel, its modern infrastructure, its efficient administrative and technical services, and the synergistic atmosphere that is constantly promoted. The FORTH team has long standing expertise in the development of novel (nano)materials through diverse chemical and physical techniques.
Over the last years the team has developed intensive research and innovation activities on the laser-assisted preparation of graphene-based materials for various applications related to energy conversion and storage. These innovative approaches have been protected under patents.
Through national and EC-funded projects, the FORTH team, in partnership with other consortium teams (ADAMANT) has established proper pilot lines for the roll-to-roll production of conductive textiles based on direct graphene deposition onto the fabric.
Drawing from this experience, the FORTH team is poised to construct energy harvesting and storage mechanisms in MINEFIELD that can seamlessly integrate into soldiers’ vests, all while championing eco-friendly technologies
HELLENIC ARMY ACADEMY
Type: RTO
The Hellenic Army Academy (HAA) is an academic institution at a university level which provides academic and military education for future career officers of the Hellenic Army. It is the oldest academic institution of Greece, founded in 1828.
The Hellenic Army Academy has a broad spectrum of scientific activities that span from mechanical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering etc. The HAA is expanding its activities in additive manufacturing, metamaterials design and adaptive camouflage techniques and has the ability to test them at real world and combat situations. In parallel with the above, the HAA hosts in its facilities more than 1500 personnel (cadets, military staff, civilians working for the academy). The Academy has the operating equivalent of a Military Division.
Hellenic Army Academy – HAA is going to be a valuable partner of the consortium, as it is going to provide its long-lasting experience, as well as its knowledge for the effective implementation of MINEFIELD project. More specifically, HAA is going to bring an added value to the partnership through its hands-on contribution regarding the identification of the detailed and accurate specific requirements for the establishment of a soldier’s system.
The Hellenic Army Academy is the sole military educational provider of this consortium that has the unique know-how about the prerequisites for the development of a next-generation and technologically advanced soldier’s equipment that could satisfy the survival, energetic, and ergonomic needs and demands when soldiers operating in the battlefield, especially in harsh and difficult conditions.
UNIVERSITÉ GUSTAVE EIFFEL
